CANTON TWP. - People enjoyed a jazzy night recently at New Life Church.

The 2014 Troy Jazz Dinner Concert was held at the church on Route 14, between Troy and Canton.

During the fundraiser for the Troy Bands Program, Troy High School's own jazz ensemble, The Serenaders, provided the music, which included a mix of jazz classics, a little swing, a little slow rock, and some originals.

"I think people enjoy it because it's a nice night out," said Jen Swain, the band boosters secretary. "They get to listen to great music."

She said the music is "wonderful."

"I think it's fantastic so far," said one visitor, Kelly Jennings of East Troy, who was attending the event for the first time.

Reservations were accepted for the dinner concert. Swain said that a little more than 200 people attended.

"It's going really well," said Dan Schwanger, band director at the high school. "We have a good group who organized it."

According to Swain, the proceeds pay for such expenses as uniforms and costs for food and traveling for the students in the bands program. She said it was the third year for the annual event, which has gotten a positive response over the years.

Members of the Troy High School Bands program served a meal of tossed salad with baby bayou shrimp, chicken cordon bleu, a fresh baguette, and a selection of fine artisan desserts.
