Planning continues for a reunion event that will bring together both former and current residents of South Waverly Borough.

A committee organizing the Aug. 16 event will meet later this month to discuss fundraising and other matters regarding the reunion, said organizer Janet Bennett Belcher, who lived in South Waverly for 35 years and now lives in Uniondale, Pa.

Committee members have already made flyers to pass around to residents and are collecting photos to use on a historical afghan that's being produced, Belcher said.

Members also plan to gather biographies and photos of those who lived in the area in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s and of former schools and other landmarks.

The event will likely include a meet-and-greet event on the night of Aug. 15 at the community hall, followed by an all-day affair the next day. "It's quite an undertaking," Belcher said of planning the reunion, which is expected to include food, raffles and entertainment.

The committee will also hold a craft fair April 26 at the community hall to raise funds for the reunion, Belcher said.

The event has had a strong response so far from current and former borough residents. A Facebook group dedicated to the reunion had over 120 members Wednesday.

"We welcome everybody," Belcher said. "It's fun going down memory lane."
