Towanda Twp. supervisors decide times of meetings

For now, the Towanda Township supervisors will continue to hold their meetings at 10 a.m. on the first Monday of the month, said Supervisor Charlotte Sullivan.

Up until the end of 2013, the supervisors had held their meetings at 6 p.m. on the first Monday of the month, because township Supervisor Frank Lindsey, who had been serving as township roadmaster, might have needed to do snow plowing or other road maintenance work during the day.

However, Lindsey was critically injured in a Dec. 14 ATV accident, from which he is still recovering.

In January, the supervisors had decided to hold their meetings at 10 a.m. on the first Monday of the month for the first quarter of 2014, partly because the time is more convenient for township Solicitor Jonathan Foster Sr., who serves as a solicitor for several other municipalities and therefore may have a meeting in the evening that would conflict with an evening meeting of the Towanda Township supervisors.

The supervisors had said they would evaluate in March whether to keep the new meeting time in place.

Sullivan said Friday that that evaluation has taken place and that the supervisors will, for now, continue to hold their meetings at 10 a.m. on the first Monday of the month.

The next supervisors' meeting is at 10 a.m. on April 7, Sullivan said. The supervisors hold their meetings in the township building on Chapel Street.

Grand opening to be held for Baskets, Blooms & Beyond

The Baskets, Blooms, & Beyond flower shop will be holding a grand opening event on March 22 at its new location inside the Ben Franklin Crafts store in downtown Towanda.

There will be a ribbon cutting at noon on March 22, after which free hot dogs will be distributed to the first 200 customers, said owner Lynn Daly.

In addition, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., kids will be given, free of charge, a small pot, potting soil, and a couple of seeds for a flowering plant. They will plant the seeds in the pot, which they will take home.

Earlier this year, Baskets, Blooms, & Beyond moved from 508 Main St., Towanda, to its new location at the back of Ben Franklin Crafts.
