WYSOX - Local television personality Mike Stevens will be the featured speaker at Claverack's 2014 annual meeting this summer.

Stevens, a reporter with WNEP-TV, channel 16, has hosted and produced the station's popular "On the Pennsylvania Road" segment for 30 years.

Stevens' "Pennsylvania Road" assignment takes him to the back roads and country lanes of northeastern and central Pennsylvania in search of interesting people doing interesting things.

Over the years, the "Pennsylvania Road" segment has introduced WNEP viewers to folks who whittle, carve, saw, fiddle, play, collect, draw, build and otherwise do things that Stevens thinks TV 16's viewers would enjoy knowing about. He plans on sharing experiences from his travels with those who attend Claverack's annual meeting, which will be held Saturday, July 19, at the Wysox Fire Department Recreational Grounds.

Stevens says the "Pennsylvania Road" segment allows him to combine his love of history with a desire to share upbeat and positive stories highlighting ordinary people living in the region.

"If you watch the news every night you know it can be really depressing," he says. "I like to do the stories that show there are normal, nice people in the world and they do good things."

In addition to his road pieces, Stevens is also host of the "Home and Backyard Show" that airs on Channel 16 Saturday mornings. He also writes essay pieces for area magazines and enjoys taking the photographs that accompany some of his stories. He has published four books under the "Life in the Slow Lane" title.

Claverack Rural Electric Cooperative is a non-profit utility owned by its consumer-members. A democratic organization by nature, the cooperative holds an annual meeting each July to update members on the progress made during the year and to conduct director elections.

Claverack, with headquarters in Wysox, provides electric service to approximately 18,000 meters in Bradford, Susquehanna, Wyoming, Tioga, Lycoming, Sullivan, Lackawanna and Luzerne counties.
