MONTOURSVILLE - Numerous police agencies will be participating in aggressive driving enforcement activities as part of the PA Aggressive Driving Enforcement and Education project. The first wave of the project this year will be from March 24 to May 4.

In PennDOT District 3, participants include:

- Bradford County: The Borough of Towanda and the State Police.

- Columbia County: Hemlock, Montour, Scott, and South Centre townships, the Borough of Bloomsburg, and the State Police.

- Lycoming County: Old Lycoming Township, the City of Williamsport, Tiadaghton Valley Regional Police, and the State Police.

- Montour County: The Borough of Danville, Mahoning Township, and the State Police.

- Northumberland County: Coal, Point, and Mount Carmel townships, the Borough of Northumberland, the City of Shamokin, and the State Police.

- Snyder County: The Borough of Shamokin Dam, and the State Police.

- Tioga County: The Borough of Mansfield and the State Police.

- Union County: Buffalo Valley Regional Police, and the State Police.

These agencies will be joining more than 330 municipal police agencies and the State Police to reduce the number of aggressive driving-related crashes, injuries and deaths on 435 roadways throughout the state. Any aggressive driver stopped by police will receive a ticket.

Municipal police departments that participated in last year's campaign wrote 116,191 aggressive driving-related tickets, including 54,785 for speeding alone.

Disobedience to traffic control devices or signs was the second most common offense, resulting in 14,452 tickets.

The extra traffic enforcement also brought about 118 felony arrests, more than 1,200 DUI arrests, and 568 drug-related arrests.

The aggressive driving enforcement is funded by PennDOT and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
