School board members in Troy and Canton recently commended students on their accomplishments in music and sports.

At a recent Troy Area School Board meeting, school board member Bill Brasington had kudos for the 2014 Troy Jazz Dinner Concert.

It was held recently at New Life Church on Route 14, between Troy and Canton.

During the fundraiser for the Troy Bands Program, Troy High School's own jazz ensemble, The Serenaders, provided the music.

The music included a mix of jazz classics, a little swing, a little slow rock, and some originals.

Brasington told the school board he was pleased with the quality of the music program and called the participants very accomplished young musicians.

He said everything was professionally done.

"We can be very proud of what your young kids are doing with the music program here," he commented.

At the last Canton Area School Board meeting, meanwhile, board member Bill Holland praised wrestlers Garrett Wesneski and Connor Route.

Both qualified for states this year. Wesneski was a third-place finisher at states and he won sectional, district and regional titles. Route won a regional title.

In addition, both went over 100 career wins this year.
