TROY - Who doesn't like cake?
Especially when it's cake themed to a Dr. Seuss book?
On Thursday at W.R. Croman Primary School in Troy, kindergarten students celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday with a cake that was decorated with a "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish" design.
The classic Dr. Seuss story dates back to 1960 (fortunately, the cake wasn't that old).
The students in Aubrey Carrington's class were really excited. They were wearing "Cat in the Hat" headgear.
The National Education Association's "Read Across America Day" is a nationwide reading celebration held each year on March 2, which is Dr. Seuss's birthday.
This year, however, March 2 fell on a Sunday, so the event was held for the kindergarten students on Thursday.
"It always brings up the excitement level of the kids," Carrington commented.
With all the festivities, she noted, the students' curiosity is piqued.
Things were even a little crazier because the school had assigned a silly theme each day this week. On Thursday, it was "Crazy Hair Day."
Carrington and art teacher Lucy Chamberlain each dressed to the theme.
According to Carrington, the educational aspect of the celebration focused on reading and rhyming.
Carrington said the students also had green eggs and ham, made "Horton Hears a Who" hand print art, and created Truffula Trees with marshmallow straws, icing, and sprinkles.
In addition, the students learned about nonsense words.
